BudgetingHey there, fellow filmmakers! I get it—when you're juggling script rewrites, tight budgets, and last-minute production changes, key art might be the last thing on your mind. But great key art is more than just a nice-to-have. It’s what makes your film stand out when audiences are scrolling through streaming platforms, festivals, and social media. Eye-catching key art grabs attention, gets more clicks, and can lead to more views—and more money. It’s also your secret weapon for marketing, giving your film a professional, cohesive look across posters and promos. At festivals, it helps you get noticed by busy distributors and judges. Skimping on key art can cost you big time, but investing in it can be the game-changer that helps your film get the recognition—and returns—it deserves. Please don't assume you won't have the budget before talking to me. Depending on how you plan to market you film, we can figure out what the best fit would be for you.

What is the difference between a movie poster and key art?A movie poster is a type of key art designed to promote a film in theaters or festivals. It usually features the film’s title, cast, director, and key visuals. Key art is the overall visual identity for a film, TV show, or book cover, or album cover used across all platforms, including social media, billboards, and streaming services. It creates a consistent look for the marketing campaign, and a movie poster is just one part of it.
-
What is your process for creating key art or movie posters? Most of the time, I start by getting to know the director and filmmakers by setting up a chat and talk about the film. It helps to get a good feel for the film’s theme, tone, and audience. Sometimes, with a detailed email about what I need to know about the film works as well. I collaborate closely with the filmmaker to make sure the poster tells the story and grabs attention the film deserves. From initial brainstorming to concept sketches and revisions, I take care to incorporate feedback at each stage to produce an eye-catching, professional movie poster that aligns with the film's marketing strategy. My key art designs have been featured in projects for both indie films and large studio productions.
